“Christmas tree” appearence:
The Peutz-Jeghers polyp varies in size from less than 1 cm to more than 3.5 cm in diameter, and it may be sessile or pedunculated. The basic architecture is that of glandular epithelium resting on a branching smooth muscle framework (arrow)that arises from the muscularis mucosae. This framework, which is essential in making the proper diagnosis, is easily recognized at low power; the polyp has a “Christmas tree” or arborescent-like appearance.
