Tissue

Tissue:
Tissues can be defined as collection of cells along with their intercellular substances. They collectively perform a specific function. Organs are made up  of different types of tissue.
There are various types of tissues such as-epithelial, connective, nuscle and nervous tissue.Various tissues perform different functions in our body.Different types of tissues forms an organ to serve a specific type of function.
What is tissue
What is tissue?

Epithelial tissue:
Epithelial tissue covers the surface of an organ, internal organ, inner lining of systems such as-skin, lining of gastrointestinal  tract, reproductive tract, respiratory tract etc. This tissue forms a protective barrier between external environment and the organ. Also it can serve some special functions such as secretion, excretion and absorption of some substances.
There are different types of epithelium according to their functions:

  • Simple squamous epithelium.
  • Stratified squamous epithelium.
  • Simple cuboidal epithelium.
  • Transitional epithelium.
  • Pseudostratified columnar eypithelium.
  • Glandular epithelium.
Connective tissue:
Connective tissues are comprised of fibroblasts, adipocytes and intercellular substances.Intercellular substances can be liquid(Plasma for blood) or hard(bone).
Bone, blood, tendon, ligaments and adipose tissue are the examples of connective tissue.

Muscular tissue:
Muscles forms the bulk of body stature and also helps in movement of different body parts.Muscles are of three types-Skeletal muscle, Cardiac muscle and smooth muscle.

Nervous tissue:
Nervous tissues are devided into central nervous system and peripheral nervous system.Central nervous system is comprised of brain and spinal cord.Peripheral nervous system is made up of cranial nerves and peripheral nerves.

Summary:
So tissues are collection of cells along with their intercellular substances that serves a common purpose. There are different types of tissues depending on their functions like epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous tissue. Tissues perform specific functions such as protection from harsh environment, secretion, absorption, communication, movement etc.
